THE GOTHARD SISTERSThese three homeschooled sisters have been playing music and dancing from a very young age, and grew up performing on stages in the Pacific Northwest.
They started out with rigorous classical violin training and competitive Irish Dance with the Tony Comerford school of Irish dance, leading them to leadership positions in the local Youth Symphonies and bringing them to the Irish Dancing World Championships (held overseas in the UK) to compete in the solo championships for four years in a row. The three sisters have also developed their talents on various other instruments including guitar, bodhran and voice in the pursuit of creating a fuller, more compelling show. Their love for music, dance and storytelling is their inspiration for performing and recording. The Gothard Sisters have recorded six CDs, beginning with their Christmas release in 2006 ("And to All a Good Night,") and progressing to their most recent original and Celtic album, "Story Girl" in November, 2011, and their latest Christmas album, "Christmas," which has gained some radio airplay and includes a well-loved version of "Little Drummer Boy," (renamed "Little Drummer Girl") which was included on a recent Putumayo World Music compilation album of unique Celtic Christmas music arrangements. The new album, Story Girl, has already gathered some awards of its own, including celticradio.net's "Album of the Year" for 2011. The contest was voted on by members of the internet radio site and through 15,000 votes first place in the Jigs and Reels category was awarded to "The Three Coins," which was written by Willow Gothard. These days the girls can be seen making their way across the country visiting fairs and festivals to share their love of music, dance and live performance with the people that they meet. A live show with the Gothard Sisters is likely to include fast fiddling numbers with lively choreography, Irish step-dancing used in a myriad of ways, and special songs and ballads. |

During this time, Willow’s interest in traditional Irish music grew and subsequently she began writing her own tunes.
